NEW DELHI: MS Dhoni, renowned for his calm demeanor both on and off the field, was once so displeased with a hotel that he decided to move out and shift to a different one. The revelation was made by his former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammate Dwayne Smith in a video interview that has since gone viral on social media.
The video begins with the host asking Smith to choose between the two IPL franchises he represented — Mumbai Indians or Chennai Super Kings. Smith responded instantly, even before the question was completed: “Chennai Super Kings.”

When asked why, Smith explained, “Just the way it is. I love Mumbai too. Because of the vibe I had at Chennai. With Dhoni the boss around. From my observation, Dhoni had this thing in his head that he needs to understand each player he is working with. If you get him angry, you must have done something really bad.”

Smith went on to recall two specific incidents when he witnessed the usually composed Dhoni lose his cool.

“Ashwin had dropped a catch. It was a regulation catch. Dhoni moved him out of slip and placed him somewhere else. It was the first time I saw him angry.
"The other time was when the hotel staff stopped food, ordered by Dhoni, from being delivered to the hotel for him. He got angry and he moved from the hotel to another hotel. I can't remember the hotel name, or even if I do, I won’t mention it. He moved to the other hotel right away,” Smith revealed.
Does MS Dhoni have any luck left? Greenstone Lobo on CSK's 2025 chances!

Dhoni is currently leading CSK in IPL 2025.
Dhoni produced a vintage finishing act, smashing an unbeaten 26 to guide Chennai Super Kings to a five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants on Monday.
The win ended CSK’s run of five consecutive defeats, with Dhoni and Shivam Dube (43*) stitching an unbroken 57-run stand to help the visitors chase down 167 with three balls to spare at the Ekana Stadium.
Leading the side in place of the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad, the 43-year-old Dhoni walked in at No. 7 and lit up the night with a flurry of boundaries — four fours and a six — in a dazzling 11-ball knock. The master finisher silenced critics and fans alike, proving he's still got the spark when it matters most.
For his game-changing cameo, Dhoni was named Player of the Match, becoming the oldest player in IPL history to receive the award. At 43 years and 280 days, he surpassed Pravin Tambe’s long-standing record.
