Virat Kohli's unbeaten 59 and Phil Salt's 56 powered Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to chase down 175 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opening match of IPL 2025. The match at Eden Gardens saw RCB secure a seven-wicket victory with 22 balls remaining.
Krunal Pandya's 3-29 and Josh Hazlewood's 2-22 helped RCB restrict KKR to 174/8. Salt and Kohli's explosive start resulted in a 95-run opening partnership, setting the foundation for the chase.

Salt continued his aggressive approach with shots against Spencer Johnson and Arora, including a four and six off consecutive deliveries.
The third over saw Kohli score a boundary off Arora, while Salt finished with a six. Salt's dominance continued in the fourth over against Varun Chakaravarthy, scoring two fours and two sixes, accumulating 21 runs.

Kohli showcased his class with back-to-back sixes against Johnson, while Salt added a four through backward point. Despite a dropped catch, Kohli hit Chakaravarthy for six, and Salt reached his fifty in 25 balls.
Chakaravarthy eventually dismissed Salt, who edged to short third man. Devdutt Padikkal's wicket followed shortly, caught at deep mid-wicket off Narine. Kohli achieved his 56th

Captain Rajat Patidar played impressively, hitting Narine for six and scoring four boundaries off Harshit. Though Patidar fell to Arora, Liam Livingstone sealed the victory with consecutive boundaries, including the winning shot past mid-on.
Earlier, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane's quickfire 56 off 31 balls and Sunil Narine's 44 off 26 balls helped establish a strong position. Their 103-run partnership for the second wicket set a solid foundation.

The match began with Quinton de Kock's early dismissal by Hazlewood for four, despite an earlier dropped catch. KKR's innings gained momentum in the fourth over when Rahane hit Rasikh Salam for two sixes and a four.
Narine and Rahane continued the assault, with Narine hitting Pandya for six and Rahane adding two fours. The power play ended with KKR at 60/1, including 51 runs in the latter half.
Rahane reached his fifty in 25 balls with a six off Suyash, while Narine contributed with more boundaries. However, RCB fought back as Rasikh dismissed Narine for 44, and Rahane fell to Krunal for 56.

KKR's middle order collapsed as Krunal removed Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh, while Suyash dismissed Andre Russell. Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 30 off 22 balls before falling to Dayal.
RCB's bowlers executed well in the final five overs, limiting KKR to just 29 runs. Hazlewood claimed his second wicket when Rana was caught by keeper Jitesh Sharma, who took his fourth catch of the match.
