Mohanlal and
Shobana's latest crime thriller 'Thudarum', has been enjoying a strong run at the box office with positive reviews. However, despite its success, the film has recently fallen victim to piracy.
According to a report by Onmanorama, a pirated copy of the film was being played openly inside a tourist bus traveling from Vagamon to Malappuram in Kerala. A student on the bus noticed the illegal screening and sent a video of it to actor Binu Pappu on social media, who is part of the film's cast. The visuals of the pirated screening have since circulated online.
Reportedly, producer M. Renjith expressed his disappointment over the piracy incident and confirmed that
legal action will be taken against those responsible. He shared that piracy not only harms the film’s commercial prospects but also affects the livelihoods of many people involved in the production and distribution of the movie. The bus involved was identified as registered in Malappuram district, and authorities are expected to investigate the matter further.
This is not the first time such a situation has happened, last year, a similar case occurred with the Telugu film 'Thandel' starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi which was also illegally screened on a bus. A high-quality pirated copy of the film was shockingly screened on Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses.
Speaking of 'Thudarum', directed by
Tharun Moorthy, the film tells the story of Shanmugham, aka Benz played by Mohanlal, a humble taxi driver living a peaceful life in the hill town of Ranni with his wife Lalitha portrayed by Shobana and their children. The film's plot thickens when Benz's beloved black Ambassador car is seized by the police after a mechanic uses it for smuggling illegal goods.
The movie released on April 25 has completed 10 days of its release and minted over Rs 71 crore in India.
