Pa. Ranjith is gearing up for his next directorial venture, 'Vettuvam', following the completion of 'Thangalaan'. While 'Thangalaan' explored the deep roots of indigenous communities with a mystical narrative, Vettuvam is set to be an intense gangster drama unfolding in the backdrop of Madurai. Ranjith had initially introduced the film’s first-look poster at the 75th Cannes Film Festival a few years ago, but the project was put on hold as he shifted focus to 'Thangalaan'. Now, he has resumed work on 'Vettuvam', with filming currently underway.
Star-studded cast brings fresh excitement
Back when the poster was unveiled, Ranjith and the film’s then-producers made a grand introduction, but the cast was not revealed at the time. Now, the project is taking shape with an impressive ensemble, including
Arya, who is reuniting with Ranjith after 'Sarpatta Parambarai'. Other notable actors in the cast include Attakathi Dinesh, Kalaiyarasan, and Lingesh. According to Cinema Vikatan, the film’s female lead is played by 'Ponniyin Selvan' star
Sobhita Dhulipala, marking her first film after her marriage to
Naga Chaitanya. The shooting for the film has been progressing in Karaikudi for the past two weeks.
‘Vettuvam’ set to explore bold themes like ‘Thangalaan’
Like 'Thangalaan', which boldly explored historical and social issues such as caste structures, hero stone worship, and the Ryotwari taxation system, 'Vettuvam' is expected to tackle significant themes that Tamil cinema has rarely addressed. Ranjith is known for his unique storytelling that blends entertainment with thought-provoking narratives, making Vettuvam highly anticipated among cinephiles.
Technical crew and next shooting schedule
The cinematography for the film is helmed by Rupesh Shaji, who previously worked on 'Bottle Radha', a film produced by Ranjith. While
GV Prakash composed the music for 'Thangalaan', speculation is high that he may also score for 'Vettuvam'. Once the Karaikudi schedule is completed, the next phase of filming will continue in Chennai.
