Kapil Sharma and Rajiv Thakur once couldn't afford a house in Mumbai despite saving Rs 70 Lakhs; says 'We were so poor that we didn’t know that one can avail a home loan'
Kapil Sharma and Rajiv Thakur have been close friends since they began their careers together. After moving to Mumbai, they planned to accumulate money and buy a property. Rajiv recently revealed that they were so new to the business that they had never contemplated getting a home loan.
During a talk on DostCast's YouTube channel, Rajiv mentioned that they had saved Rs 50 lakh but were still unable to afford a 2-BHK flat in Andheri, which costs roughly Rs 75 lakh. They chose to look in Malad instead. They liked the flat there, but it was too expensive. Rajiv persuaded the seller to drop the price by offering to purchase three flats. "We wanted to buy a flat. Back then, a 2-BHK flat in Andheri was at least for Rs 75 lakh. We couldn’t afford that, so we headed to Malad," said Rajiv.
Rajiv and Kapil liked the flat, but it was too expensive. Rajiv convinced the seller to drop the price by promising to buy three flats. "Kapil and I would buy one each and we would find someone to buy the third. He said Rs 54 lakh for the flat, I brought it down to Rs 45 lakh on the promise that we will buy three flats. But when we returned to Andheri, it took us about one and a half hours.
By this time, we decided, we are never returning here," he recalled.
By the time Rajiv and Kapil saved Rs 70 lakh, Andheri apartment prices had increased to Rs 90 lakh. “We were so poor that we didn’t know that one can avail a home loan. It never occurred to us that one can take home loan," he recalled.

Previous seasons included Archana Puran Singh as the vivacious judge, with comedians Kiku Sharda, Krushna Abhishek, Sunil Grover, and Rajiv Thakur providing countless instances of laughter.
