Alia Bhatt knows how to turn a red carpet into a runway and she did just that on Day 1 of WAVES 2025, where Bollywood’s brightest stars descended upon the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The event, a four-day celebration of Indian cinema and audio-visual brilliance, set the tone for high-impact fashion right from the start and Alia’s look was nothing short of regal reinvention.
The Jigra actress made a memorable entrance in a custom Paithani saree from Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’s atelier, handcrafted by Tulsi Weaves artisans from Yeola, Maharashtra. Taking an astonishing 75 days to create, the saree is a tribute to slow fashion and India's deep-rooted weaving traditions. Styled in a classic Nauvari drape, the ensemble spoke volumes of cultural pride, with a contemporary twist that only Alia could pull off.
While the saree was steeped in tradition, Alia’s styling added just the right amount of modern glamour. She wore a custom baby pink blouse with a deep V-neckline, featuring delicate floral sequins embroidered in Resham, pearls, and crystals. Its backless cut offered a surprising edge, proving once again that ethnic fashion doesn't need to feel dated to be powerful.
Eschewing heavy jewellery, Alia let the craftsmanship of her outfit shine. Her accessories were minimal yet impactful, pearl-drop earrings with emerald detailing and a few bold statement rings completed the look. She also wore strappy block heels and even added a toe ring, a subtle nod to Indian bridal fashion that added to her statuesque presence.
Her beauty look embraced the clean-girl aesthetic that’s become her signature. With dewy, radiant skin, soft blush, a touch of contour and highlighter, and plum nude lips, her makeup struck a balance between fresh and glamorous. Smudged kohl eyeliner framed her eyes, while a centre-parted sleek bun added sophistication.
With this look, Alia Bhatt didn’t just wear a saree, she redefined it for the new-age Indian woman. At WAVES 2025, she proved that honouring tradition can coexist beautifully with contemporary expression.
