'Rohit Sharma ko captain banao': Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani responds to fan request

Amidst Mumbai Indians' shaky IPL 2025 performance, a Rohit Sharma fan implored team owner Nita Ambani to reinstate him as captain outside Shirdi shrine. Ambani responded with a smile, attributing the decision to divine will. This plea surfaces as MI struggles, currently seventh despite management's support for Hardik Pandya. Sharma's own form is faltering, averaging only 11.

A Mumbai Indians fan approached team owner Nita Ambani outside Shirdi shrine, requesting her to reinstate Rohit Sharma as captain amid the team's mixed performance in IPL 2025. Ambani responded to the fan's plea with a smile, though the team management continues to back current captain Hardik Pandya despite their position at seventh in the points table.
The fan made his request to Nita Ambani with folded hands, saying, "Rohit Sharma ko captain banao (Make Rohit Sharma the captain)." Ambani responded, "Baba ki marzi (leave it to God)."

Mumbai Indians have experienced a challenging start to their IPL 2025 campaign, securing only two victories in six matches. They lost their opening matches against Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans before winning against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium.
The team then faced consecutive defeats, including a loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who secured their first win at Wankhede in a decade. Mumbai Indians bounced back by defeating Delhi Capitals by 12 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma's personal form has been concerning this season. The former captain has managed just 56 runs at an average of 11.20 in five games, failing to score more than 20 runs in any innings during IPL 2025.
Since 2023, Rohit's IPL batting average stands at 24.39, the second-lowest for an opener with a minimum of 25 innings. The team has also utilised him as an impact substitute in two matches this season.
Hardik Pandya's leadership has been under scrutiny following Mumbai Indians' bottom-place finish in the previous season. However, the team management maintains their support for the all-rounder as captain.
Mumbai Indians are scheduled to play their next two matches at home, facing Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday followed by Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.
