For the New Jersey Devils, the season has not been favorable. While they did bank enough points to make it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they were eliminated after losing to the Carolina Hurricanes in five games. While the general manager of the Devils announced that he would not be coming back with the same players the next season, Timo Meier and Devils captain Nico Hischier are positive about making a big return. After suffering a loss from the Carolina Hurricanes, the star players of the Devils shared their thoughts on the performance. While competing for Switzerland at the IIHF World Championship 2025, Meier shared with Nhl.com, "We know the standard, and we have to raise the standard. Just being in the playoffs, that's not what we're satisfied with. We want to go further. It should be energising and motivating. We want more. Everybody works together. The GM is working hard. All the players want to improve and got to improve." He further added, "Being in the playoffs, you get a taste of it again. For us, we've got to be there. We want to be there every year and go further, not just getting there. It's not enough. We want more."
On the other hand, the star captain of the Devils, Nico Hischier, shared, "I like it, honestly. We made the playoffs. We made a step in the right direction. Obviously, we got a little unlucky with injuries during the playoffs and right before playoffs, but every offseason is a chance to add and make the team better. We made the playoffs, but I'm biased. I think we have the team to go all the way."Hischier further added, "We obviously could've made a run. You've always got to believe. It's just a step in the right direction, and I like it if the GM says we are going to add some key players that he thinks can help the team improve and be that championship team we hopefully one day will be."Also Read: Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier lead the Devils into a playoffs showdown with Sebastian Aho's HurricanesThis comes after Fitzgerald, the general manager of the New Jersey Devils, had appeared at an end-of-season press conference and told the media that big changes would be implemented for the next season. He said, "We've got a lot of decisions to make on certain players, whether we bring guys back, trade players, (but) we won't be coming back with the same group (in 2025-26). I can tell you that because it wasn't good enough."
