NEW DELHI: The mother of a 17-year-old boy, who was fatally stabbed in Seelampur, Delhi, on Thursday evening, has accused the police of not providing updates and allowing the culprits to flee the area.
Speaking to ANI on Friday, she claimed that despite a previous altercation involving her son, the police failed to take any action following his tragic death.
"My son had a fight a few days ago. He was simply watching when he was beaten and threatened. We had taken him to the hospital, and after not eating for two days, he asked for a samosa and milk. He went out at 7 pm, and by 7:15, we received the news that he had been stabbed," she said.
The grieving mother further alleged that the doctor who had treated her son was also attacked by a group of individuals. She expressed frustration with the police, saying they failed to act swiftly, allowing the suspects to escape.
"The police didn't try to catch anyone. They locked their houses and fled. They even threatened to kill the children. The police haven't communicated anything to us," she added.
In response to the incident, locals in Seelampur staged protests, blocking roads and demanding justice for the victim. The protest continued into the morning, with residents holding signs reading "Modi ji madad karo, Yogi model chahiye" (PM Modi, help us, we need the Yogi model).
One local protester shared concerns about the area's ongoing violence, stating, "Since 2012, murders have been happening here. My son was stabbed in 2010. There have been six murders since then. People are scared, and we want our children to leave this place."
Another protester highlighted issues of harassment, claiming, "Girls are constantly harassed here. Despite complaints, nothing has been done. Men blow cigarette smoke on girls' faces, grab their hands, and hurl abuses."
Delhi Police have assured the public that they are conducting raids to apprehend the culprits. "We are actively investigating and conducting raids. The accused will be caught soon," said Sandeep Lamba, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast).
The 17-year-old victim, who was rushed to a nearby hospital, succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
