IMD issues orange alert for 3 days from tomorrow
Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Goa from Tuesday to Thursday, forecasting very heavy rainfall at isolated places and heavy rainfall at several locations in Goa.The IMD also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph at isolated locations during this period.In addition, a yellow alert has been issued for Friday and Saturday, warning of continued heavy rainfall and wind speeds gusting to 30-40 kmph at isolated places across Goa. The IMD also sounded a coastal warning for the South Maharashtra–Goa coast, extending up to 75km offshore. Squally weather with wind speeds ranging from 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is expected to prevail along and off the South Konkan and Goa coasts from Monday to Thursday. Fishermen were strictly advised not to venture into the affected sea areas during this period due to rough sea conditions.The IMD noted a developing weather system over the east-central Arabian Sea. An upper air cyclonic circulation was likely to form off the Karnataka coast around Wednesday. Under its influence, a low-pressure area was expected to develop over the same region around Thursday, which might intensify further and move northwards.
