Civic elections conclude peacefully in Ambala, Kurukshetra, and Yamunanagar; low voter turnout in Ambala city mayoral election
AMBALA: Civic body elections were conducted peacefully on Sunday in Ambala City, Ambala Sadar, and Barara in Ambala district; Ladwa and Thanesar in Kurukshetra district; and Radaur and Yamunanagar-Jagadhri City in Yamunanagar district.
To ensure a smooth voting process and maintain law and order, district administrations implemented extensive security measures.
The Ambala City mayoral by-election recorded a notably low voter turnout of just 32%, with only 61,801 votes cast at 191 booths out of a total of 1,93,260 registered voters.
In Ambala district, Ambala Sadar Municipal Council (MC) reported a 52.3% voter turnout, with 93,262 votes cast at 156 booths out of 1,78,370 registered voters. Barara MC recorded a 67.3% turnout, with 13,113 votes cast at 20 booths out of 19,481 registered voters. Following the conclusion of polling, all election materials and EVMs were safely transported to strong rooms.
In Kurukshetra, Ismailabad MC registered a 64.9% voter turnout, with 6,841 votes cast at 13 booths out of 10,540 registered voters. Thanesar MC recorded a 50.4% turnout, with 69,356 votes cast at 108 booths out of 1,37,681 registered voters.
Yamunanagar’s Radaur MC saw the highest voter turnout in these districts at 79.7%, with 9,520 votes cast at 14 booths out of 11,950 registered voters. Meanwhile, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri City MC recorded a 53.5% turnout, with 1,90,082 votes cast at 348 booths out of 3,55,278 registered voters.
Ambala District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ajay Singh Tomar inspected polling stations and confirmed that the elections concluded peacefully. He stated that adequate police arrangements were made, particularly at sensitive and high-risk booths.
Yamunanagar DC Parth Gupta also reviewed the voting process and security arrangements, affirming a peaceful conclusion to the elections.
Kurukshetra DC Neha Singh stated that the elections were conducted smoothly under tight security. She also noted the enthusiasm among voters during the municipal elections.
